To Be Read: Ice Land

To Be Read - books that have caught my eye. My holds list at the Toronto Public Library is scary, my Amazon wishlist only gets longer and longer. In the US around 172,000 books are published a year. If a person reads a book a week from the age of 10 to 100 (you can see that this is extremely approximate) then they could read a total of 4680 books in their lifetime. This haunts me. Therefore, most books that catch my eye will remain 'TBR' and hopefully if I don't get to read them, you will.

Today: Ice Land by Betsy Tobin. This book came out in hardcover last year and the paperback will land on August 25, 2009. I have to admit, the dreamy cover attracted me and the comparison to The Mists of Avalon hooked me. When I tell you that this book is about Norse Gods in 11th century Iceland you are going to think I've gone positively drippy but have faith gentle knights and ladies, The Observer said "Tobin brings myth and mystery impressively to life" and The Independent said, "The land itself, and the sea and sky surrounding, engender myth as naturally as the salmon spawns." OK I don't know what that means but it sure sounds good!

For those of us who love escapist lit - long live escapist lit! - this promises to be just what the doctor ordered.
