Javier Bardem in Eat, Pray, Love Film Adaptation?

Julia Roberts is signed on to play Elizabeth Gilbert in the Eat, Pray, Love film adaptation. Now, it's rumored that Javier Bardem will join her to play Elizabeth's lover, Filipe, that she meets at the end of her journey.

Now, I'm no judge on hotness, but Javier was fantastic in No Country For Old Men. Not that playing a wealthy business man who likes to spend his days romping in bed has much to do with a deranged yet very clever serial killer.

As for Julia Roberts, she certainly doesn't seem like the popular choice. I, too, am a little doubtful that Roberts can capture Elizabeth's spazzy extroversion perfectly but hey, she went from playing the lead role in Runaway Bride to Erin Brockovich, so the lady has range.

Last but not least, Ryan Murphy is directing. Murphy created Nip/Tuck and Popular ie. lots of experience in soapy drama.

I know that Eat, Pray, Love is supposed to be a sad example of what appeals to middle aged women i.e. adopting hot, wealthy lovers & co-opting the spiritual dictates of foreign cultures in order to give meaning to their overstimulated and overpaid upper-middle class existences.

Still, I found it a brave attempt to discuss and deal with emotional pain. When Gilbert is not overwrought she is raw and forthright - she is not ashamed to dip into and grapple with her very deepest despair. No person's pain is trivial and Gilbert is so honest about hers that it is impossible not to relate and sympathize, on some level.

I won't attempt a full review here but needless to say, I am looking forward to the film adaptation.
