Creepy Kid-Lit to Become Creepier

Where the Wild Things Are was definitely a staple of my childhood bookcase. Just like now, I guess I was drawn to the creepy, the weird, the wacky.

Do you remember that the whole book contained only 10 lines of text?

British writer Francis Spufford said that the book is "one of the very few picture books to make an entirely deliberate, and beautiful, use of the psychoanalytic story of anger."

The live action movie directed by Spike Jonze has been in the works for a while now (it's scheduled to appear in theatres starting October 19, 2009). That Jonze is directing is perfect in so many ways.
